Nineteenth century binding of half brown morocco with raised bands, gilt motifs to spine, cloth sides, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. The letter to Lord Bathurst is given in its original French in the footnotes.An early ownership signature has been chemically erased from the top of the title-page and also from the top margin of the first page of the Preface. Covers lightly rubbed at the edges. Very good.
