This unique copy is ex-library of the Gunnery with usual treatments and in library binding along with what appears to be minor burn damage.. First edition and interesting association copy. Volume I inscribed by Abbott Lawrence to William Cabell Rives. Lawrence was noted as an ambassador to Britain while Rives was a senator and ambassador to France. Notably, this important friendship was the subject to an 1846 book itself entitled Letters from the Hon. Abbott Lawrence to the Hon. William C. Rives, of Virginia (Sabin 39344).
