About This Item
Hollywood, CA: Freedom from Fear Committee, 1948. Four-panel brochure, 9x11.75 inches, very good; year penciled in corner. On the Hollywood Ten. The Committee was organized by the Hollywood branch of the Progressive Citizens of America. "In Hollywood today things are happening that are bad for the Jews. And as the world learned to its bitter cost, what is bad for the Jews is bad for the majority of people everywhere. What began in Munich as crackpot anti-Semitism ended with the slaughter of thirty-five million people. Today, again, there is a small beginning. Ten men, some writers, directors and other artists have been fired from their jobs and blacklisted in the motion picture industry on the orders of the Thomas-Rankin Un-American Activities Committee... Who are these ten men who are being persecuted? Some are Jews, some Catholics and Protestants. Yet, is it a coincidence that every one of these Americans has either written, produced, directed or acted in motion pictures that attacked racism and honorably pictured minorities as human beings deserving equal rights and equal consideration.
