First edition in a pamphlet; excerpts reprinted from Listen, Humanity (1967). Single leaf, folded pamphlet [iv] pp. Meher Baba (b.1894 - d.1969) was an Indian spiritual Master who said he was the Avatar of God in human form and taught that each soul is God passing through imagination in order to realize its own divinity. He taught that the goal of all beings was to gain consciousness of their own divinity, and to realise absolute oneness of God. His spiritual system was an amalgam of Sufi, Vedic, and Yogic terminology and he had had hundreds of thousands of followers during his lifetime. He also didn't speak from July 10th 1925 until he died in 1969 and communicated solely with an alphabet board initally before switching to a series of unique hand gestures interpreted by his followers. Toward the end of his life he championed an anti-drug campaign initiated by "Baba lovers" in the United States, Europe and Australia and made a lasting impact on many of his followers including Pete Townshend of The Who. However the campaign was mostly futile but won Baba new followers, and some of Baba's views found their way into academic debate on the merits and dangers of hallucinogens. His stance on the subject of LSD is reprinted here in God in a Pill?
