Synopsis

Sigfried Giedion (1888–1968) was born in Switzerland. He taught at the Federal Institute of Technology and was also Mellon Lecturer at the Washington National Gallery and Charles Eliot Norton Lecturer at Harvard University. His books include Space, Time and Architecture ; The Eternal Present : The Beginnings of Art ; and The Beginnings of Architecture. Witold Rybczynski is the Meyerson Professor of Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania, and is the architecture critic for Slate . His book on American building, Last Harvest , was published in 2007.
