London: T. Fisher Unwin. 1907. Second edition. Second edition. Original brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Illustrated with 14 tissue-guarded colour plates by Eduardo Rubino as well as 34 black and white photographic and illustration plates. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the corners lightly bumped, the cloth with a 1.5 cm split and some fraying at the head of the spine and scattered marks across the upper board and spine. The contents, with offsetting to the endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. The Italian mountaineer and photographer Guido Rey's writings on early attempts at climbing The Matterhorn, including his own. With an introduction by the Italian novelist, poet, author of popular travel books and children's stories Edmondo De Amicis (1846 - 1908).
