wonderful copy paperback interior is clean except probably a teacher's name written just inside the cover-him small amount of Edgeware – covers still shiny –fully illustrated with some nice color drawings balance in black-and-white maybe charcoal–the Matlock gun was awarded the Newbery medal in 1942 as the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children – writing mostly short stories – stating New York state happens to be unique in representing practicable the strings country and within its boundaries – writing about people and places he was most familiar with-- illustrator Paul Lantz -BIOGRAPHY Born in Stromsberg, Nebraska (1908), Paul Lantz spent his early childhood in Montana and Missouri. He moved to Missouri and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he was then the youngest student ever to be enrolled. At age seventeen, he went to New York for further study at The National Academy and Art Students League, and then to Europe for further art study (1926), and then back to New York. In 1929 Lantz traveled to New Mexico where until 1939, he worked with artist Randall Davey. Lantz moved to New Mexico permanently in 1974.his work with illustrating children's books in addition to his traditional art is quite prolific.about the book.
