Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1935. First edition. Hardcover. Fine. First edition. Hardcover in black cloth lettered in yellow. 318 pp. Fine, No jacket. The "as told to" autobiography of "Lord Jim" Manes, an American who was an internationally infamous thief and con man of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Among other things, Manes was a card sharp who fleeced aristocratic passengers on ocean liners, organized the notoriius Cosmopolitan Club of London (which was no club at all but a luxuruious trap wherein internationally known rich men were cheated), conned and fleeced the beautiful American woman he married and, most famously engineered the fraud- robbery of the Bank of Liverpool in 1901. "Lord Jim"'s story was first serialized by the Red Star News Company in 1926 and 1927; this is the first book edition.
