A story of a man who becomes master of his fate, set in Manchester and the West Riding country, involving mill-owners, landed gentry, stern religious figures and doting aunts. Black cloth binding with gilt titles on front cover and spine. Gilt still bright, some spotting of cover with edge wear, scuffs, corners and spine ends bumped, former owner's name "Mrs. B. H. Miller, October 13, 1919" on front free end paper, some spotting of end papers, interior pages tanned but clean, binding a little shaken.
