U.S. Geological Survey, Washington, D.C., 1958; 22" x 27"; 7.5 minute series. Includes Cathedral City, the southeastern tip of Palm Springs Airport, Palm Valley School, Tamarack Country Club, Thunderbird Country Club, Indio Hills, Whitewater, Thousand Palms, etc. Very Good Plus, small (1/2") closed edge tear in the blank right margin, not affecting titles or graphics. Ownership stamp in top blank margin bearing the name and Palm Canyon address of Culver Nichols, legendary Palm Springs founder who, together with other notables such as Earl Coffman, Fred Markham, Warren Pinney, Alvah Hicks, Ralph Bellamy, Phil Boyd, and Jack Williams, pioneered the incorporation of the city of Palm Springs in 1936. Nichols rose to become an influential realtor in the Palm Springs area, and it was he who donated the land upon which the Palm Springs Tram Valley Station now stands, where the Culver Nichols room preserves his name. Clean and bright, unfolded. Ships rolled. An early Palm Springs map with historic provenance.
