New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1943. First Edition. Good/Good. First edition, first printing. Signed by James Thurber and inscribed to former owners on the verso of the front free endpaper. Bound in publisher's original red cloth stamped in black. Good, with light stains to cloth and fading to spine ends, light edge wear, pages thumbed and lightly toned, abrasion to front free endpaper corresponding to excess paper on the front pastedown. In a Good toned, tattered with a meandering tear down the spine, and stained dust jacket, which is unpriced. Winner of the 1944 Caldecott Medal.
