London: Chapman and Hall, 1874. First Edition . Hardcover. Good. Hardback. A good copy externally in an attractive red leather binding which is lettered and decorated in gilt. Five raised bands on spine. The leather is rubbed at the ends and edges of the spine and this has become a two inch tear at the join of the spine and front board. All edges gilt. Internally very good. Small ownership label. Attractive green end-papers with gilt thistles in each of the four corners. Pp.xviii,554. Fifteen chromolithographic prints by F. Kellerhoven and 437 wood engravings. Includes chapters on food and cookery, hunting, punishments, gipsies, tramps and beggars, guilds and trade corporations etc.
