Garden City, New York: Doubleday Doran , 1929. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. FIRST EDITION STATED First printing by definition. A very clean, very solid and bright copy with bumped spine and minor wear to corners. Paper label on spine is fine. one small label on verso of cover may be a bookshop label but all it says is " The sign of the Mermaid". Top of text block is trimmed and retains it's black stain and the fore-edge and bottom of text block is untrimmed. The jacket is VG+ with chipping to spine top and extremities. Spine is faded slightly. Jacket is repaired on verso and unclipped ($2.50). and protected in mylar. Mamba's daughters is a stirring novel of the black people and white people (1929) of romantic and romanticized Charleston. It's pathos, it's humor, it's drama and it's vital realism are winning an even greater that came to the author's other famous novel, Porgy.
