Edward Phillips Oppenheim (1866 - 1946) was the author of more than 100 novels. He also wrote five novels under the nom de plume of Anthony Partridge. This is a worn copy of a well-loved book. Ex-library with minimal treatments: stamped name on inside front cover and rep, title on inside back cover. Penciled name on fep. Back pastedown split halfway, but is repairable and there is a crack to the binding at pages 70/71. Cocked spine. Bumped and worn head and heel of spine and corners. Toned pages, soil to tissue covering frontispiece, we counted 96 pages with soil ranging from fingermarks, to light foxing , to stains, mostly in the margins; one page has a tear in the margin. About very good, shallow fraying foot of spine, less so at head. Spine somewhat rubbed and with margi tidemarking final few pages. An early Oppenheim in which an English baronet serves a nine-year prison term rather than betray an woman's honor. Whenhe is release, however, he achieves great riches for the purpose of destroying the lives of others.
