About This Item
New York: William Morrow, 1949. Second printing. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo, 477pp. A very good copy in the publisher's black cloth, lacking the dust jacket. The last 50 pages (or so) have some faint waviness, indicating moisture, however there are no tidemarks or stains internally. There is some mild staining evident on the spine. All of this sounds worse than it is; the book is overall clean and sound. This copy SIGNED by Mead on the front free endpaper, and while her hand is notoriously difficult to decipher, it reads: "Margaret Mead 25 Anniversary, Association for Family Living." Per a summary of the organization's archives retained by the University of Illinois-Chicago: "The Association for Family Living was an educational agency in Chicago concerned with improving marriage and family life." The summary goes on to mention Mead specifically as a featured speaker at many of their conferences. An appealing association between the great anthropologist and a socially engaged advocacy group.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
