Hard cover, 8vo, hand bound in natural-colored cloth-covered boards featuring a celtic bird design in grey linocut across the cover, by the artist Tony Crossley. Blue spruce colored endpapers. Unpaginated. Letter press printed on mould-made Rives paper created by renowned French papermaker, artist and book restorer, Jacques Brejoux. Includes an original, bound-in double page signed relief etching by the Welsh Book Artist Shirley Jones, the pencilled title of which is "The Head of Aeschere." This book is the companion volume relating some of the maker's challenges faced by the Red Hen Press's artist/publisher, Shirley Jones, in the production of selections translated from Beowulf, in her limited edition fine art publication, "Ellor-gast" (Llanhamlach: Red Hen Press, 1986.) Beowulf eventually finds the head of the hero Aeschere, warrior-advisor to the Danish King Hrothgar, who is killed by Grendel's mother, in the Beowulf saga. The work of contemporary Welsh book ARTIST Shirley Jones is represented in the special collections of numerous museums and special collections. A Fine Copy. .
