'Mahomet and his Successors' is an interesting biography about the history and life of Muhammad and his followers. Illustrated throughout with many engraved plates. Written by Washington Irving, an American author best known for his short stories 'Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'. He was one of the first American writers to earn acclaim in Europe, and paved the way for the likes of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Longfellow, and Edgar Allan Poe. In a decorative burgundy morocco binding with gilt detailing. Externally, smart. Previous owner's blindstamp to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Fine
