About This Item
Madison: M, 1982. Seven of the first nine issues of this pro-feminist, gay-affirming magazine for men published in Madison, Wisconsin from 1979-1994 (the magazine changed titles to Changing Men in 1985). The magazine was part of the burgeoning Men's Movement, which sought to eliminate sexism and traditional gender roles while supporting gay and women's liberation. As stated in the premiere issue: "We believe that all our efforts to create a gender-just society free of sexism and sex-role stereotyping will be encouraged by exchanging information and nourishing a larger men's community."
Each issue featured articles, poetry, reviews, an evolving resource directory, and letters. Included in this run are the premiere issue (Winter 1979/80), issue #2 (Spring 1980), Issue #4 (Fall-Winter 1980), Issue #5 (Spring 1981), Issue #7 (Winter 1981-82), Issue #8 (Spring 1982), and Issue #9 (Summer-Fall 1982).
Stapled, magazine format, various pagination, illus. A near fine run.
