London: Longmans, Green and Co., 1901. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8" by 5.5". G. P. Jacome Hood. A first edition of H. Rider Haggard's historical novel, illustrated throughout. 'Lysbeth: A Tale of the Dutch' is a historical novel set in the Netherlands during the era of William the Silent. H. Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English novelist primarily known for his works of adventure fiction, including 'She' and 'King Solomon's Mines'. The majority of his works have exotic settings, primarily Africa, and he was an extremely prolific writer, producing over fifty novels, three short story collections and a number of non-fiction works and works published in periodicals. His works have been adapted for screen many times.Contains five pages of publisher's advertisements bound to the rear. Illustrated with twenty-six full plates. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, a chip of about half an inch to the head of the spine, otherwise minor bumping to extremities only. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally generally firmly bound, with hinges strained but firm. Pages are a little spotted, with instances of spotting more noticeable to early pages.
