Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Co., Inc., 1947. First trade edition [1947]. Very good in lightly worn dustjacket. Classic of American historical fiction, set in coastal New England in 1800. Black cloth, map endpapers, 488 pages plus list of sources and publisher's ads, illustrated dustjacket. The book is in very good condition with minimal shelf rubbing, minor scuff to rear panel, good hinges, firm binding, name of Carl J. Sandburg on preliminary blank, very clean pages free from other names or markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and has some edge rubbing, shelf soil to the light colored rear panel, very minor edge chipping with little paper loss.. First Trade Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
