Dust wrapper unclipped but chipped and torn at edges and two thirds of the dust wrapper spine missing. Pp 204. Title page vignette by Reynolds Stone and including 12 pages of black and white photographs, drawing in the text by the author and folded map of Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean area. All pages and illustrations tight, bright and clean. Booksellers label of L Simmons/Fleet Street on front pastedown. Neat ownership mark in pencil on front free endpaper "Izzard/Beirut/June 1956. This person could be Ralph or Molly Izzard. Ralph Izzard a journalist who spent many years in Beirut had also been involved in Naval Intelligence and acquainted with Ian Fleming. His wife Molly was a wartime FANY and later went on to use her inquisitive skills to study the works of Freya Stark completed a very interesting biography of Stark. A book with perhaps more than one interesting story to tell.
