The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board. Subscription library bookplate to the front paste down. Guy Newell Boothby (1867-1905) was a prolific Australian novelist of late nineteenth-century sensational fiction. The Lust of Hate, originally serialised in several Australian newspapers in 1897, is Boothby's third novel to feature his recurring character Dr Nikola. This is the first edition of the work in book form. An adventurous novel concerning thieves, revenge, and shipwrecks, illustrated throughout by Stanley L. Wood. A 12 page publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally fairly smart, with small marks to the front board and spine, and shelf wear to the extremities. Rear hinge is slightly strained but held firmly. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Very Good
