L'autore, nativo dell'isola di Creta, insegnò belle lettere all'Università di Padova ed ebbe successo per questi suoi studi sulla danza e sul teatro antico (Cfr. de Letterati d'Italia XL, 222). L'opera è una storia del mimo e della pantomima nell'antichità presso i greci e i latini. Interessante la parte degli apparati di scena, gli abiti e gli strumenti musicali. Lo scritto venne trovato incompleto e pubblicato postumo da Marcantonio Madero (1659-1738) bibliotecario della Marciana di Venezia. Bel ritratto dell'autore in antiporta inciso da Alessandro della Via. Collazionato e completo. Posthumous original edition of 1713 of this interesting work written by Nicholas Kalliakis (1645-1707). The author, born in Creta Island, teached beautiful letters in the University of Padoa and had a great success for his studies on dancing and ancient theatre (Cfr. de Letterati d'Italia XL, 222). The work is a history of mime and mime show in ancient latins and greeks. A chapter is dedicated to scene establishment, costumes and musical instruments. The writing was found uncomplete and published posthumous by Marcantonio Madero (1659-1738) librarian of Marciana in Venice. Beautiful portrait of the author in the frontspice engraved by Alessandro della Via. Collationed and complete. In good conditions. Full parchment coeval cover with handwritten title in the spine in very good general conditions slightly worn in the edges and spine . Binding in very good conditions. Inside pages are in very good conditions with occasional foxings. Little horizontal tear in the right edge of page b without ruining the text.

L'opera è composta da tre tomi legati insieme ed è completa. Il nome ed il culto di Santa Filomena nacquero con il ritrovamento nel 1802 di alcune ossa all'interno di una lapide nelle Catacombe di Priscilla a Roma. Per un errore di interpretazione nell'iscrizione della lapide Santa Filomena venne considerata martire, poi tolta dal calendario negli anni 1960.
