About This Item
HARTE, Bret. THE LUCK OF ROARING CAMP, AND OTHER SKETCHES. Boston: Fields, Osgood, 1870. Small 8vo., original plum cloth. First Edition. Signed presentation from Harte on a preliminary blank page: "To Mr. Wm. B. Blackwell with compliments of Bret Harte. Ogden, Feby. 4th, 1870." An early presentation since Blanck's "Bibliography Of American Literature" notes a copyright deposit copy recorded on April 15 and advertising first appearing in the beginning of May. Presentation copies of this title are rare, with only the Crocker and Doheney copies being sold at auction in the last 25 years. Very Good (gilt on spine somewhat dull). Enclosed in a custom-made, leather & cloth clam-shell box, with a gilt-worked spine. $20,000.00.
