About This Item

Brand new hardback as published by The Folio Society. The book will be delivered to you in the publisher's undisturbed shrink-wrapping. The condition of both book and slip case is 'New'. As to technical aspects, the book is bound in cloth, blocked with a design by Christopher Corr. Set in Clifford. The book has 240 pages and 8 colour illustrations. Book size in inches is 9.0 x 6.25. As to the content, The Folio Society sets the scene thus: the novel is set in Ireland during the Second World War. 'Loving' describes life above and below stairs in Kinalty Castle, an isolated Gothic pile. Henry Green surveys this cosseted world with humour and unsentimental affection. Downstairs, the servants¿ boredom is relieved by shifting rivalries, alliances and desires - not to mention a missing sapphire ring, the unfortunate demise of a peacock and the discovery of an illicit affair. Meanwhile upstairs, Lady Tennant laments the burden of untrustworthy staff as her daughter-in-law Violet guards a guilty secret. All the while war rumbles in the distance, and although the inhabitants of Kinalty are relatively safe, there are rumours of a German invasion, fears for relatives in England and the sudden departure of a young servant. A modern classic brought to life with illustrations by Christopher Corr.
