About This Item

London: Hogarth, 1945. Hardcover. Good/Very Good. Second printing. 12mo (7.25 x 5 in.); 229pp.; blue cloth boards, in dust jacket. Cloth shows a striking degree of fading, from dark to light blue, everywhere but on the spine. (Having seen this on other second printings, we surmise that it is due to the composition of the book boards; the copyright page states that the book was produced per "economy standards.") Some dampstains/offsetting to the endpapers. The rest of the textblock remains clean and unmarked, though leave show light uniform tanning. Unclipped jacket dampstained to rear panel and flaps, with moderate toning to spine. Despite its flaws, a reasonably presentable early printing of Green's masterpiece, featuring dust jacket design by John Piper.
