Alfred A. Knopf, 1942. Book. Good. Cloth. First Edition. SIGNED handsomely on the free endpage by James M. Cain. Stated First Edition. A sound First with bright red covers with strong black design and lettering, and graceful Cain initial medallion on front center. Old orange bookstore sticker on rear endpage from Gordon's Satyr Book Shop at 1620 N. Vine in Hollywood. Pages unmarked but there are a few stains on several pages. Between pages 8 and 9 there are several spots that transfer faintly to the surrounding pages. There is a printing flaw on the last two pages causing uneven edges to the side of the page. The last page with Printer's Note has several large chips to the edge. Penciled name on endpage. Spine with slight shelfslant. Red inked top ends looking even and strong. Front cover has faint small spotting both of clear and a shade lighter spots. Corners are gently bumped with silght fraying to upper spine and front corners. Back cover has several larger and more unattractive greyish spots..
