About This Item

London: The Mitre Press, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Signed by Marion Duncan on the title page. "This translation into English of hundreds of love songs and proverbs portrays the innermost feelings of the Tibetan in love and life. Upon a background of belief in Karma, in fate, and in faith that the Dalai Lama as the incarnation of the God of Mercy can aid him toward Nirvana, the Tibetan builds his physical desires under as many inhibitions as people in other lands." Octavo: 239 p. with 4 photographs. Original blue cloth binding, with silver titles. The ink signature of noted Buddhist scholar Robert P. Jackson appears on the front flyleaf. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with two short tears to the spine head that have been mended with tape on the verso; otherwise very good.
