About This Item
London: John Russell Smith, 1843. First edition. 1 vols. 8vo. Original printed wrappers, publisher's advertisements on back. Spine and edges frayed, some light browning and soiling, mostly marginal, else a good copy of this unusual piece. First edition. 1 vols. 8vo. When almost eighty Mrs. Piozzi apparently "took a great fancy to a handsome young actor, William Augustus Conway and it was reported that she proposed to marry him." (DNB) These letters were perportedly by her. Whether they were or not "The Preface" was considered slighting and damaging to her reputation.
