About This Item
Chicago: Herbert S. Stone and Company, 1900. The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) also wrote novels; unfortunately, they were rather successful. He wrote "Love Among the Artists in 1881 as a serial where "a youthful Shaw describes his views on the arts, romantic love and the practicalities of matrimony. Dilettantes, he thinks, can love and settle down to marriage, but artists with real genius are too consumed by their work to fit that pattern" (from the Wikipedia entry). This is a Very Good (minus) copy of the First Edition. Green cloth binding with a stamped decorative cover and lettering in a darker green. Clean text; 443 pages. Minor bumping to corners and a tear to the top of the spine; stain on the rear cover. A previous owner has pasted two photographs of GBS to the FFEP (rather famous "mug-shots" of a young, intense, almost Rasputin-like Shaw). One of the endpapers has split, but is holding nicely. Basically a sound copy, but due to these several minor defects, not for the advanced collector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket.
