About This Item
New York: Pocket Books; Washington Square Press, 1990. 352 pages, [14] pages of plates, illustrations; 21 cm. Firm binding, gently creased spine. Clean inside copy. Age toning. A biography of the American sculptor Louise Nevelson (1899-1988). Born in Kiev, in Czarist Russia, Nevelson established herself as a preeminent assemblage artist in the 1950s and '60s. Made of painted wood, her sculptures were often constructed as walls, taking on environmental scale. Stylistically, she straddled Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Like another woman artist of her generation, Louise Bourgeois, she was certainly influenced by Dada and Surrealism.. Paperback. Good. 8vo.
