Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), front flap jacket price-clipped, minor toning front free flyleaf, minor edgewear, bookplate, protected by removable semiarchival plastic sleeve (Brodart). 176 pp. A pioneer biography by A. Grove Day of Australian novelist and storyteller Louis Becke, often described as 'The Rudyard Kipling of the Pacific'. Until age 40, Becke frequently worked and gravelled the Pacific, including as an accomplice of the pirate and blackbirder Captain 'Bully' Hayes. He then started writing stories to support is family. A focus is on his writings, including the first complete bibliography and critical comments as a very uneven writer. (Published simultaneously with the University of Hawaii Press edition. Small bookplate: 'From the Library of Terence Scott Paul'.).
