Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a gift note scotch taped to the frontispiece photo verso dated December 25, 1943. There is also a wartime paper restriction notice on the title page which forced Grosset and Dunlap to use cheaper pulp paper which toned over time beginning in 1942. Book Condition: Very Good +; light bumping to tail; light shelfwear to bottom board edges; toning to pages; price sticker remnant on the FFFP. DJ: Very Good; light suntoning to spine; shelfwear to head, tail, and tips. Orange cloth boards and spine with bright black lettering on the spine. Frontispiece photo of Gehrig. Clean internals. Interior hinges are not split. This is the smaller wartime book that measures 7.5" x 5.25". 185 pp 12mo. This is the story of the NY Yankee star first baseman Lou Gehrig from his beginning in NYC and Columbia University to his long career with the Yankees to his demise and death from ALS. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
