New York: Philomel, 2005. First US edition, first printing. Published by Philomel in New York, 2005. This is a fine copy. The pictorial dust wrapper, illustrated by the author, has one small nick to the top of the spine and is otherwise fine with some light curling. It has not been price clipped. The paper covered pictorial boards are sharp at the corners and clean. The internals are free from previous owner's ink and the text blocks are immaculate throughout. Overall, this is a fine copy. It won the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize Gold Award and was the Blue Peter Book of the Year. An animated short film adaptation was made by Studio AKA in 2008. It was directed by Philip Hunt and broadcast on Channel 4.
Synopsis
What is a boy to do when a lost penguin shows up at his door? Find out where it comes from, of course, and return it. But the journey to the South Pole is long and difficult in the boy’s rowboat. There are storms to brave and deep, dark nights.To pass the time, the boy tells the penguin stories. Finally, they arrive. Yet instead of being happy, both are sad. That’s when the boy realizes: The penguin hadn’t been lost, it had merely been lonely!
