London: Heinemann, 1955. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. 7.5" by 5". None. An excellent first edition copy of this novel by Graham Greene in the original dustwrapper. The first edition of this work. A novella by Graham Greene dealing with romance and gambles.Graham Greene was an English writer and journalist, regarded by many as the leading English novelist in the twentieth century. He was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966 and 1967, and was awarded with the Shakespeare prize in 1968, and the Jerusalem Prize in 1981. In his novels, Graham likes to explore morality and politics in the modern world.With unclipped dustwrapper. In the original publisher's cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally very smart, with minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine. Spine is slightly faded. Inscribed by a previous owner to front free endpaper, "tamer" undated. Small bookseller stamp to front free endpaper. Dustwrapper is sound, with slight chipping to head of spine and slight closed tears throughout. Unclipped. Spine unattached from rear wrap, tape repaired internal to wraps, not affecting externals. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean but for slight minor faint spotting to endpapers. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis

Graham Greene (1904-1991) worked as a journalist and critic, and was later employed by the foreign office. His many books include The Third Man , The Comedians and Travels with My Aunt . He is the subject of an acclaimed three-volume biography by Norman Sherry.
