Synopsis

Anita Brookner's 1983 novel, Look at Me , is a poignant and gripping tale of an attractive woman who is quite alone and uncertain how to break out of her shell. She is "adopted" by a couple and made much of, and she revels in the experience until they grow bored with her and time marches on. "Problems of human behavior still continue to baffle us, but at least in the Library we have them properly filed."
