New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1929. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Octavo, 626 pages. In Good condition, lacking dust jacket. Bound in navy blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Boards have fraying to spine edges, slight bumping to corners, and mild edge and shelf wear. Binding loose. Textblock has light age toning and splitting to half title page gutter. Page 308 line 26 has no capital "g" in "greek", page 506 line 23 has "staioned" (missing t). Shelved Room A. 1373011. Synopsis
Look Homeward, Angel: A Story of the Buried Life is a 1929 novel by Thomas Wolfe. It is Wolfe's first novel, and is considered a highly autobiographical American Bildungsroman. The character of Eugene Gant is generally believed to be a depiction of Wolfe himself. The novel covers the span of time from Gant's birth to the age of 19. The setting is the fictional town and state of Altamont, Catawba, which is considered to be a not-so-subtle mirror of his hometown, Asheville, North Carolina.
