Illustrations include Trafalgar Square and the Monument, Buckingham Palace, Chantry of Henry V with the tomb, the Thames Embankment showing Somerset House, the Egyptian Obelisk, and the Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, the great banqueting Hall of the Temple, the entrance to the Temple with the ancient house fronts, and the Tower of London..

Light foxing on some pages. Gilt bright on front board but although spine lettering impressions show, all gilt has faded off backstrip. No dj. .

Top edge gilt, two-color illustrated frontispiece and title page, tissue guard, illustrations, black and white and color illustrated plates, index. The covers are lightly edgeworn, speckling to the bottom edge, and a very faint damp stain to the bottom of the back cover, one of the first pages is partly detached from the binding and there is a previous owner's inscription on the first page. "London is a great subject and presents a formidable task which is illy considered and executed if, when done, the labor of omission though concealed, is not found to have been its most difficult part" - from the Foreword.
