About This Item
New York; (1917): Doran. First Edition. Thick Octavo. 454 pages. Preface by Paul W. Bartlett. Over sixty-photographs of New York as it was just before the U.S. entered World War I. Helen W. Henderson was a major art critic who though she was a Philadelphian found items of interest not often known by native New Yorkers. Her inclusions of the early churches and the progress on St. John the Divine make this an excellent contemporary picture of the city which as she notes was always in change yet retaining its finest landmarks. Bound in green pictorial gilt cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering and top edge gilt, inner hinges have been repaired with brown cloth tape. A good copy.
