London: Robert Hale Limited, 1948. First UK edition. harcover cloth. Very Good. The logabook of a whaler hunting in Antarctic early in the 20th century. Murphy was the scentist aboard the ship. This is the story of the end of the era of sailing whalers, which had not chasnged much since the days of Moby DIck. THe notes that Murphy kept were intended for his new bride (Grace) and are a complete narrative--not just a "log." Murphy became a distinguised orthinologist and a curator at the AMerican Museum of Natural History.
COver slightly faded but otherwise almost like new. The front over features a gilt sailing ship (brig). Gilt lettering on green cloth.
