Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 8vo (215 x 138 mm). x (of xii), 926 pp, 108 wood-engraved text illustrations, bound without half-title. 20th century quarter red morocco with black morocco lettering piece, marbled edges. Text little browned at margins, light foxing mainly to to title and final leaves. Dr. Cordes, Geneve (small ink stamp and shelf-mark note in pencil to title). ---- Garrison-Morton 614; Norman 659; Heirs of Hippocrates 1690; Osler 2511; Waller 2604. - First edition. Duchenne classified the electrophysiology of the entire muscular system and summed up his findings in the above work. The application of his results to pathological conditions marks him as the founder of electrotherapy. He was able to identify previously unknown diseases, distinguishing between progressive muscular atrophy, labioglossolaryngeal paralysis, progressive muscular atrophy with pseudohypertrophy, and locomotor ataxia. - Visit our website for additional images and information.
