About This Item

Broken Hill / Adelaide: Self-Published: Glenys Hocking, 2016. Paperback large wide octavo, very good condition, maps, black & white text-photos, minor edgewear. 146 pp. The fascinating memoir of the life of Glenys Hocking as a child living on the SA/NSW Border Fence. The Border Fence meandered through to the Northern areas of the State linking to the South Australian/New South Wales Border at a point just above Mulyungarie Pastoral Company, and north of Cockburn. Her notes: "My personal account covers the historical events experienced by my parents and us children during the period 1936 to mid -1942. I have described the primitive living conditions of the day for the Overseer and Boundary Rider at Boolka Lake to the eventual move into new housing at Smithville and Turleys Gate.".
