About This Item
London: Jarrolds Publishers Ltd, 1952. First UK Edition. Late collection of 26 stories mixing fantasy and detective fiction. A Haycraft-Queen cornerstone title. Queen's Quorum 109; Joshi & Schweitzer IA90.a; Hubin p.129. First Impression. Octavo (19cm); second binding in green cloth, with titles stamped in black on spine; dustjacket; 232pp. The author's own copy, posthumously inscribed by his widow, the Lady Beatrice Child Villiers, on the front endpaper: "From the library of Lord Dunsany / B. Dunsany / January 1959." Hint of toning to base of spine and lower board edges, with lower corners gently tapped (though still sharp); Very Good+. Dustjacket is edgeworn and spine-sunned, with shallow losses to corners and spine ends (no loss to text) and a triangular chip to upper left corner of rear panel; handful of short tears, rear panel grubby, with lower corner of front flap clipped and a price of 6/- net left of the clip; Very Good.
