About This Item

London: Heinemann; Bloomsbury, 1977-1991. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 9.5" by 6.5". Not Stated. Two short story collections and the last of the Ripley series by the popular author Patricia Highsmith; all first editions. The first editions of these three works in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers, apart from Little Tales of Misogyny, which has a price-clipped dust wrapper. Patricia Highsmith (1921-1995) was an American writer best remembered for her psychological thrillers, and in particular her novels featuring the character Tom Ripley. She was inspired by existentialist literature, and her work often questions notions of identity and popular morality. This collection contains some of her later works. This set includes: Little Tales of Misogyny (1977), a short story collection offering dark satires of misogynist stereotypes, such as the 'coquette' and the 'housewife'. Tales of Natural and Unnatural Catastrophes (1987), a collection of gruesome and darkly comical tales concerning human folly and excess. Ripley Under Water (1991) is a psychological thriller novel, the last of the Tom Ripley series, in which David Pritchard threatens to expose Tom's role in the disappearance of Thomas Murchison. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers, apart from Little Tales of Misogyny, which has a price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrappers are in excellent condition. Fine
