East Aurora, 1908. Done into a Book by THE ROYCROFTERS, at their Shop, which is in East Aurora, Erie County New York State, Anno Domini MCMVII. Thick 8vo. 9" x 7-1/8". 348 pp. Beige laid paper covered boards. Brown pigskin spine with raised bands and engraved title. Pigskin corner tips. 1-3/16" wide pigskin latch with metal buckle. Laid paper endpapers with Roycrofters watermark. A touch of cover soil. And only a slight touch of rubbing to extremities. Pigskin strap is supple and in very good shape. Buckle is too. Overall a near fine copy.. A beautifully crafted book with art deco initials printed in red, beige and black inks. Engraved portraits by Jules Maurice Gaspard. Hand set black typeface punctuated by red paragraph notations and small flower periods. Lovely, lovely pages to look upon! Subjects of biographical sketches are George Eliot, Thomas Carlyle, John Ruskin, William E. Gladstone, Joseph M. W. Turner, Jonathan Swift, Victor Hugo, William Wordsworth, William M. Thackeray, Charles Dickens, Oliver Goldsmith, William Shakespeare and Walt Whitman.
