New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, [1944]. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. [12], 150 pp. Bound in full brown cloth, title and decoration stamped in black on cover and spine, deckle edge. Color frontispiece and illustrations, several in color, by Lynd Ward. Very Good, previous owner stamp to front free endpaper and rear pastedown, pages are slightly age-toned, but clean, binding is heavily scuffed and rubbed, in a protective plain gray cover, with title printed in black on spine.

Synopsis

Little Blacknose: The Story of a Pioneer is a children's book written by Hildegarde Hoyt Swift and published in 1929. The book, subtitled “The Story of a Pioneer,” received a Newbery Honor award in 1930. Little Blacknose tells the story of the DeWitt Clinton locomotive, the first steam locomotive to operate in the United States. Told from the perspective of the engine the book includes a brief history of the railway and details about the engine’s life and adventures, from the World’s Fair to Grand Central Station.
