Madden's work on The Countess of Blessington With illustrated fontispiece Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington (1 September 1789 – 4 June 1849) was an Irish novelist. Richard Robert Madden (22 August 1798 – 5 February 1886) was an Irish doctor, writer, abolitionist and historian of the United Irishmen. Madden took an active role in trying to impose anti-slavery rules in Jamaica on behalf of the British government. Bound in original cloth binding by T. E. Slate. Externally worn with closed tears to the spines with backstrip lifting to volume III. With ink inscriptions to the front boards. Hinges are starting. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean and bright throughout with pencil annotations to the end-papers. Fair
