[Brussels]: Impressæ [by E. Fricx], 1676. First Edition, Second Issue. Hardcover. 12mo, 234 pages. In Very Good condition. Bound in later full burnt orange calf, paneled spine, one compartment with gilt lettering, others plain. Double-ruled blind boards. Bookplate on the front pastedown of the Wickenheiser Milton Library. *2, A-I12, K10, lacking the final blank leaves K11 and K12.
Second issue, with frieze face (or Medusa) woodcut on title page. The second issue is also sometimes called the second edition. The first issue (or first edition) has a fruit instead of a face.
JG consignment. Shelved in Case 0. This surreptitious edition of State Letters was brought out by a bookseller named Pitt two years after Milton's death, printing in book form the material written as Latin Secretary to the Council of State in 1649-1659.;
