About This Item
Boston: Ginn and Company, The Athenaeum Press, 1907. 12 mo. 6-11/16" x 4-5/8". Green cloth covered boards stamped in darker green. Green and white pictorial endpapers. 149 pp. Previous owner's name on title page. Otherwise very good.. Translated from the Norwegian by Laura E. Poulsson. Half-tone illustrations by Othar Holmroe. A perfect family read-aloud book. A thoroughly delightful story of an orphaned country girl in Norway who makes her way in the world tending goats in the mountains for her gentle benefactor. The scenes of the countryside and the relationships of the animals with each other and with their herders are so refreshing. It is a life few children growing up in the 21st century would have any knowledge of but for this story written by a native of Norway in 1903.
