About This Item
Madison: Links, 1968. First edition. Tabloid format newspaper printed in black on newsprint; unpaginated [12 pp.]; illus. No issue number or date is provided, but we believe this to be the second issue of this underground high school newspaper, published in September 1968. By the early 1970s many underground high school newspapers emerged and most were members of the Cooperative High School Independent Press Syndicate, later Youth Liberation Press, but LINKS preceded CHIPS' formation in 1969. This issue includes coverage of news & events around Madison and from other high schools around the country; also comics, a crossword puzzle and reprints of stories from other papers. The paper is less radical and offensive than most of its descendants, which seems like a purposeful attempt by the editors to make the ideas more accessible. Some toning to newsprint, else a Near Fine example. On three institutions via OCLC purport holdings of any issues (Univ. of Michigan, Wisconsin Historical Society & Univ. of Kansas).
